20% Time Project Proposal
Name: Meredith Farrow
Project Title: Meredith’s 20% Time Project
Project Start Date: November 7th, 2014
Project Completion Date: May 15th, 2015
Mentor’s Name: Mrs. Browning, Julia Farrow, Judy Adams
Brief Description: I am going to learn how to crochet to create items that I may sell, and donate the money to a charity.

Overview of Project Proposal

1) Project Objective:
My objective for my 20% time project is to learn how to crochet. I would really like to learn how to do this because; there are many different things you can make by crocheting. For example, I am going to try to learn how to crochet the tops of boot socks. I would also like to learn how to crochet the flower headbands that people wear in the winter to keep warm. I think both are very pretty and cool. These are both popular so I could sell them. I would like to donate the money to a charity and I expect my outcome to be pretty surprising.

2) Project Rationale:
I would like to do this because crocheting is one of those things I have always wanted to learn how to do but I have never had time to. My sister and my mom use to know how to crochet and my grandmother still crochets. Seeing them crochet inspired me to learn how to crochet. I also think it would be really cool to be able to make things that people use like headbands, scarves, or boot socks. I also have other friends who are learning how to crochet. This is why I would like to learn how to crochet.

3) Project Steps:
·         Research ideas on what to do during my 20% time
·         Make a decision- Crocheting
·         Create my blog
·         Research crocheting to figure out more about it
·         Buy yarn and a crocheting hook.
·         Watch videos and read on how to crochet
·         Follow along with the videos and get help from others
·         Blog about my progress
·         Make products
·         Advertise those products
·         Sell them and donate the money
4) Timeline of Activities:
            November
·         Learn how to crochet
·         Practice

January
·         Start making products because by now I should be good at crocheting

February
·         Start selling products

May
·         Present my final result
·         Donate my money to a charity(I am not sure which charity to donate it to yet)

5) Available Human and Material Resources:

·         Crocheting hook
·         Yarn
·         A book on crocheting
·         YouTube videos:
·          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqca00LdmAc
·         https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Hoc9pNfVfU

6) Possible Road Blocks:
·         I may become unmotivated
·         I might want to give up
·         It might take me a while to learn how to make my products I want to make
·         Nobody may be able to help me
·         Nobody may want to buy my products

7) Research Questions:
·         How do you crochet multiple chains?
·         How much do people sell these for?
·         How long does it take to make the headbands and boot socks?
·         Can people crochet scarves?
·         If people can crochet scarves? How do you and how long does it take?

Today I think I decided to change my idea. I have researched a lot and I have found a few new ideas. Here are a few:
-Learn how to crochet
-Learn how to monogram
-Scrapbook
-Make bows
Most of these things I can use to sell and possibly donate the money. I am going to research some more though so I can make my decision.

For our 20 percent time project, each of us have chosen our own project. We will be working on it every Friday for the school year, which makes it 20 percent of the time. I am not 100 percent sure what I want to do yet, but I have a few different ideas. My favorite idea I  have come up with is "The Sweetness Strategy." I do not have much behind it, but I just want to spread kindness!
